And that is why con artists know that setting up a “charity” with vague aims to help women with breast cancer and using paid telemarketers to cold call potential donors with a fast pitch that trades on the good names and reputations of legitimate non-profits is a good bet and a way to beat the system for profits all around.

WASHINGTON -- Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Margaret Hamburg said the FDA has agreed to reconsider a decision that Bisphenol A, a chemical used to harden plastics, was safe at levels found currently in products such as baby bottles.

Data from this study suggest Vitamin D for breast cancer prevention

Vitamin D has been associated with decreased risk of several cancers. In experimental studies, vitamin D has been shown to inhibit cell proliferation and induce differentiation and apoptosis in normal and malignant breast cells.

GOVERNOR PATERSON SIGNS EXECUTIVE ORDER ENACTING GREEN PROCUREMENT INITIATIVE May 12, 2008

Governor David Paterson has signed an executive order establishing a New York State “Green Procurement and Agency Sustainability Program” to promote policies within State agencies and authorities that reduce the consumption of materials and energy and reduce potential impacts on public health and the environment.

KAREN MILLER ATTENDS NYS GREENING OF THE MANSION CEREMONY,

First Lady Michelle Paige Paterson today unveiled the first installation of solar panels at the Governor’s Mansion, a significant step toward reducing the Mansion’s energy consumption and pollution. The panels were placed on the Rockefeller Pool House and are already providing energy for the Mansion’s upkeep.

STUDENTS AND SCIENTISTS ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH INTERN PROGRAM

In its seventh year, the Prevention Is The Cure (PITC) environmental and primary prevention campaign has mobilized community minded people in a broad based “coalition of concern” to enact change for the generations to come.  During the summer of 2007, the organization proudly launched its Students & Scientists Environmental Research Scholarship Program. Following themodel of a highly successful grassroots summer scholarship mentor program for high school students created by the Great Neck Breast Cancer Coalition, the Students & Scientists Environmental Research Scholarship Program made its maiden voyage.

SUFFOLK COUNTY LEGISLATION INTRODUCES TOXIN-FREE TODDLERS AND BABIES ACT” February 2009

HUNTINGTON, NY –Suffolk County Legislator Steve Stern (D-Huntington) 16th LD has introduced landmark legislation to protect babies and toddlers from ingesting the synthetic estrogen Bisphenol-A (BPA) which is used in the manufacture of hard plastics such as baby bottles and “sippy” cups designed for young children. Numerous scientific studies have shown that leaching of BPA has serious health consequences such as neurobehavioral disorders, including hyperactivity and learning disorders, disorders of the prostate and uterus, links to heart disease, abnormal liver function and diabetes and increased susceptibility to breast and prostate cancer. Legislator Stern was joined by several public health and environmental advocates at a public hearing held at the legislature in support of this important initiative.

EARLY-LIFE CHEMICAL EXPOSURES CRITICAL TO LATER-LIFE BREAST CANCER RISK

San Francisco - A scientific review article published in the International Journal of Occupational and Environmental Health shows that a host of chemicals that mimic or alter the activities of natural hormones can potentially increase breast cancer risk. A companion article outlines research and policy priorities needed to better understand and regulate these endocrine-disrupting chemicals, which are found in everything from pesticides to plastics to personal care products.
