Citizens' Environmental Coalition (CEC) was founded in 1983 by community leaders organizing to clean up toxic sites. Today, CEC has grown into a coalition of over 100 community, labor, health and environmental groups.  CEC brings the grassroots to the statehouse, working with citizens across the state to create safe and healthy communities. CEC coordinates an Alliance for a Toxic Free Future with over 70 groups that are working to prevent harm from toxic chemicals by promoting green market shifts and reforming government policies.

Since 1973, NYPIRG has played the key role in fighting for more than 120 public interest laws and executive orders.
