In October 2001 Huntington Breast Cancer Action Coalition, Inc. hosted the first in the nation WALK FOR PREVENTION. Through Prevention Is The Cure (PITC), thousands of supporters walked for cancer prevention helping to raise awareness of steps women and their families can take to reduce their risks of breast cancer. Each year through 2004, residents were encouraged to be pro-active in the quest for PREVENTION. PITC’s mission brought fresh focus on the causes of disease rather than ways of coping after diagnosis.
Our Prevention Is The Cure Walk signified the first walk for prevention in the country. For nearly half a decade numbers grew as more neighbors joined to support this prevention initiative.
