The Breast Cancer and the Environment Research Program (BCERP) Windows of Susceptibility studies are novel studies involving human subjects. The program focuses on the gene-environment interactions and mechanisms of environmental influences on breast cancer risk during relevant windows of susceptibility over life span.

BCERP investigators have partnered with breast cancer advocate(s) and/or members of the engaged community to facilitate bi-directional communication. The responsibilities of the community partners include reporting environmental exposure concern of high importance, community perspective when investigators are designing their studies, and translating and communicating study findings to the community, policy makers, and stakeholders as appropriate.
